Dramatization of the Starkweather-Fugate killing spree of the 1950's, in which a teenage girl and her twenty-something boyfriend slaughtered her entire family and several others in the Dakota badlands.

People just didn't make this kind of movie in 1973. Fortunately Terence Malick came along... A young Martin Sheen plays a killer on the lam with his lover, the ethereal Sissy Spacek. As always, Malick subtly turns up the emotional volume. Required viewing for dedicated film fans.
