We Were Warned.
Dr. Adrian Helmsley, part of a worldwide geophysical team investigating the effect on the earth of radiation from unprecedented solar storms, learns that the earth's core is heating up. He warns U.S. President Thomas Wilson that the crust of the earth is becoming unstable and that without proper preparations for saving a fraction of the world's population, the entire race is doomed. Meanwhile, writer Jackson Curtis stumbles on the same information. While the world's leaders race to build "arks" to escape the impending cataclysm, Curtis struggles to find a way to save his family. Meanwhile, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes of unprecedented strength wreak havoc around the world.

2012, the end of the world. Worst sci-fi movie of the year 2009.
This "movie" is a huge piece of shit.
Calling this movie "sci-fi" would imply that there is any credible science in it. Counting the inconsistencies in "2012" would be a life's work.
I saw this in the theater. About 2-3 minutes were worth watching… on a giant screen: some scenes of destruction are very impressive. DON'T watch this movie on a regular screen. Seriously. It's bad.
I just liked seeing Woody Harrelson buried in a wall of fire and earth :-)
I disagree with all the haters comments here.
It's definitely not a good movie taken out of it's context but if you're watching it knowing what you should expect from a movie directed by Roland Emmerich, it's entertaining.
Even though The Day After Tomorrow is WAAAAAYYYY better, who can complain of spending 2 hours with Amanda Peet?
