Un tourbillon d'émotions (d'hystérie?) aux dialogues acerbes. Rarement tendre, souvent bitchy, le film donne à voir le volcan bouffi de rancoeur qu'est cet adolescent, Hubert, littérallement mis sur la brèche par la relation qu'il entretient avec sa mère. Anne Dorval impressionne dans le rôle de cette dernière, tandis que Xavier Dolan (Hubert) est une révélation à tout point de vue (acteur, réalisateur, scénariste, dialoguiste).
